Oven Systems Environmental and Safety
NFPA 86 is the minimum legal standard for industrial ovens.
Every gas-fired infrared oven, portable heating system, convection oven
and combination oven manufactured by Catalytic for customers anywhere
in the world comfortably meets this standard.
State and regional regulations differ widely. In all cases, and all places,
Catalytic ovens meet or exceed what is required in terms of safety,
ergonomics and environmentals, for certification at all levels of operation.
Because Catalytic ovens are used throughout the EU, we maintain
full compliance with ATEX requirements, and carefully monitor, and work
to comply with, evolving standards that may affect our customers in the
future. On August 1, 2008, for example, the European Commission (EC)
proposed revisions to current legislation. By monitoring the content and
progress of these proposals, Catalytic is best able to serve its customers
worldwide with systems that are immediately certifiable, as well as
socially responsible.
Catalytic gas-fired infrared ovens and infrared heating systems
have long been the environmental choice of OEMs and their suppliers,
as well as leading job shops. They are truly the most “green” alternative.
One of the reasons this is true is that convection ovens must be exhausted
in order to remove raw, unburned fuel, as well as combustion by-products
and airborne residuals from the coating material itself. Removing these
materials is critical to preserving the color integrity of the cured film.
Two other problems also occur when convection ovens don't exhaust
thoroughly. First, contaminants accumulate and a condition known as
fouling occurs inside the oven. This becomes a maintenance issue that
is both immediate and costly. The second problem is uneven heating,
which causes quality problems with the cured coating.
Catalytic infrared curing avoids all of these difficulties. By design, there is
no raw or unburned fuel to exhaust. There is no oven fouling. And there
is no need for costly emissions control devices.
Infrared systems use of natural gas is also regarded as a more green
alternative to electricity, which is primarily produced by coal.
Other environmental factors that favor our gas-fired infrared ovens
include the efficiency of heat transfer that infrared provides. Flameless,
low-intensity infrared energy heats objects, rather than air, so fuel efficiency
is highest. Operation is simple and straightforward: natural gas (or propane)
contacts oxygen in the air in the presence of a catalyst. The chemical interaction produces heat and reduces the gas to harmless carbon dioxide and water.
There is no flame, because the reaction occurs at a temperature below the
ignition temperature of gas. And there’s no need for blowers or fans,
and the electricity they consume.
If your company has made a commitment to green technology,
Catalytic Industrial Systems can show you how a switch to energy-saving,
environmentally-friendly catalytic infrared heating can not only deliver the
performance you need, but give you much more “green” – in both your
emissions and your wallet.Catalytic Infrared Heating Systems are ATEX approved.
